FAQ
We're particularly interested in focused-subject collections: science fiction, scholarly books, focused-subject non-fiction, kids' books, graphic novels. We accept new, vintage, and antique books in hardcover and paperback, fiction and non-fiction. We can't accept magazines, loose educational materials, textbooks, dictionaries, outdated computer or medical books, large collections of single-author popular fiction, or large quantities of bestseller paperbacks.
Good or better condition. If it's good enough to give to a family member as a casual gift, it's good enough to donate. Minor wear (finger smudges, a little writing, dented corners, dustjacket tears) is fine. We can't accept books damaged by moisture, insects, animals, cracked bindings (except rare vintage/antique), torn covers, or foul odor.
We distribute through sales (online, local bookstores, bulk) with proceeds gifted to schools and literacy nonprofits. Many books are given free to volunteers, community events, senior centers, Little Free Libraries, and partner organizations.
We're in El Sobrante (94803). Small collections (2-3 boxes): please bring them to us. Medium collections (5-15 boxes): pickup available in West Contra Costa, Berkeley, and Oakland. Large collections (500-1000 books): we can retrieve from the East Bay. Extra-large collections must be brought to our location.
Yes. We are a California-registered federal 501(c)(3) non-profit. EIN 39-4562856.
100% of donated money goes to goal-focused activities. There are no salaries and no percentage cuts on donations — every penny ends up with the organization. A small portion covers operational costs (gas, boxes, equipment); the rest goes to teachers, schools, and literacy nonprofits.
People asking for stuff is what makes us HAPPY! We want you to ask. Reach out by email, text, or phone — we maintain waitlists and match specific requests with available inventory. Teachers and literacy organizations may receive monetary assistance or gift certificates to local bookstores.
